Office: 830-257-8162 ext. 251

OFFICE HOURS*:  Sunday Mornings, Monday through Thursday 8am-4pm, Saturday by appointment only. *Posting office hours does not guarantee presence in the office during the specified time.  It is preferred that an appointment be scheduled.

The Rev. Bert Baetz is a native Texan, born and raised in San Antonio, Texas. He grew up with a great appreciation for South Texas and he graduated from Alamo Heights High School in May 1997.

Bert received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2001, with a minor in Religious Studies. Upon graduation, he served as a missionary in the Dominican Republic and then spent a few months teaching, traveling and fly fishing throughout New Zealand. Through those experiences, Bert discerned a clear passion to further pursue his theological studies.

In the fall of 2002, Bert began his graduate studies at Duke Divinity School. He particularly enjoyed studying sacramental theology and ethics and was profoundly shaped by his Clinical Pastoral Education at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. Bert spent the summers of 2004 and 2005 serving as a seminarian and lay minister at Trinity Episcopal Church, Marble Falls, Texas. Bert graduated with a Master of Divinity from Duke University in May 2005.

Bert then joined the upper school faculty of St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Austin, Texas, where he taught courses in Ancient World Civilizations and Theology. He also served as the school's associate chaplain while he discerned a call to the priesthood through his sponsoring parish, St. David's, Austin. In his third year with St. Andrew's, Bert attended the Seminary of the Southwest where he took courses in Anglican Studies and received his Diploma in Theological Studies in May 2008.

In June 2008, Bert was ordained to the diaconate in the Diocese of Texas at Christ Cathedral, Houston, and then began his curacy at St. Mark's, Austin. Bert served as assistant rector and was ordained priest in February 2009. He continued to serve as associate rector of St. Mark's, Austin, until he accepted the call to become rector of St. Mark's, Richmond, in January 2011.  During his time as rector of St. Mark’s, Richmond, the parish experienced significant growth in its membership and scope of ministries.  Under Bert's leadership, the parish of St. Mark’s developed Christian formation classes for all ages, initiated several outreach ministries that have been emulated in other parishes, and founded a school for children ages eighteen months to five years old.

In addition to his responsibilities as rector of St. Mark's, Bert held several positions of leadership in the Diocese of Texas. Bert served as a member of the Camp Allen Board of Trustees; he co-facilitated the Curate program for newly ordained clergy in the Diocese of Texas; he served as dean of the Southwest Convocation in the Diocese of Texas; and he served as a member and officer of the Standing Committee of the Diocese of Texas.

In July 2017, with great joy, Bert accepted the call to serve as rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Kerrville, Texas.  Bert recalls an important quote drawn from the St. Peter's parish profile.  An invitation was extended to the next rector saying, "Come grow with us.  Teach us, learn from us.  Love and be loved by us."  Bert believes this is his life's work as a parish priest, and he knows the privilege he has in leading the St. Peter’s parish into this life of growing, learning, and loving.

Bert has been invited to lead retreats, preach, and teach in a variety of settings in the larger Episcopal Church, and he also exercises his entrepreneurial leadership through his non-profit corporation, Fishers of Men. With a keen interest in the art of fly fishing, Bert leads men on retreats across the country with the objective to discover the intersection of fly fishing and spirituality.

Bert is married to Sarah, and they have two children: Eloise (7) and Oliver (5). Bert enjoys time with his family, running, fly fishing, hunting, reading, and writing.

Janet Boutin

Director, School

Office: 830-257-0285

I have been affiliated with St. Peter's School since 1998.  Back then, both of my daughters attended and I helped as a room mother and parent association volunteer.  As an educator, I recognized that this school was an exceptional early childhood learning center offering small class sizes, NAEYC accreditation, a Christian environment, fun schoolwide traditions, tremendous family support and a long history of caring educators.  The school continues to serve as an outreach into our community through its Scholarship Program.  We are proud that we can offer financial support to children that might not otherwise attend a quality program.  This plays an important role in young students' lives and lays an excellent foundation for their future.

Before working at St. Peter's, my background was as a Bank Manager/Assistant Vice President of Bank One, Texas.  I came to this job with a substantial background in business management, staff development and leadership.  I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with my degree in Education.  I also serve as an instructor for Alamo Colleges, teaching their Child Development Associates Course.  Being a part of Alamo Colleges helps our school stay on top of the latest trends in our field and apply them in our classrooms.  My personal teaching philosophy is every child has gifts and talents and as early childhood educators, we are in a unique position to help them have a positive experience and a "Best Beginning" to their education.  Establishing a support structure between staff, families, administrators, Church and community helps to maximize the quality of our program.  Ultimately, that solid partnership will provide the foundation needed to contribute to all of our young students' future successes in school and life.

Assistant Director, School

Office: 830-257-8162

In the early 1960's my family moved to Kerrville from Hillsboro, Texas.  After graduating from Tivy High School in 1969, it was on to college at Howard Payne in Brownwood then to Angelo State in San Angelo.  In 1978 Kerrville called me back home where I reunited with the love of my life (Larry Reichenau) and married him in 1979.   Together we have raised two girls, Mandy Hardin and Misty Kothe.  Both girls attended St. Peter's School (Mandy thru fifth grade and Misty thru kindergarten).

In 1986,  St. Peter's School became my "home away from home".  Originally, I did volunteer work at the school while my girls were in class.  Soon I took the job of office help (answering phones) but as the school continued to grow, my job description changed to office manager then Assistant Director.  In my thirty one years at St. Peter's I have seen my children and now my grandchildren grow and learn in a kind, loving Christian environment.  St. Peter's truly offers "The Best Beginning" for so many of Kerrville's young children and I am blessed to be a part of it.

Vestry- Class of 2018

My name is Fred Henneke and I am 67 years old. I have three sons – Robert, Keith and Carl, and three grandsons – Michael, Jonathan and Hardy. I grew up in NW Oklahoma; after competing my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Oklahoma, I served with the US Army for a short period and then entered the Foreign Service of the United States as a career diplomat.  While in the Foreign Service, I completed my law degree at night in 1980 from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and then relocated my growing family first to Dallas. In 1992, we moved to Kerrville where I plan on spending the rest of my days.

I have a full-time law practice in the Hill Country and also teach history and political science part-time at Schreiner University; I maintain a full law practice to support my teaching habit. I was privileged to serve as the Kerr County Judge from 1999 – 2002. Other civic involvement has ranged from the Hill Country Art Foundation Board, the Dietert Center Board, the Hill Country Cares Board, and President of the Kerr County Bar Association, to name a few.

I grew up in an American Lutheran Church in Enid, Oklahoma; the three pillars of my upbringing were family, church and school. I first joined the Episcopal Church in Washington, DC, in 1977, and have gravitated to it as my religious foundation ever since. I have actually been a member of St. Peter’s since relocating in 1992, despite a few years in the wilderness when I attended other local churches.  I always came back to St. Peter’s from my wanderings and now am here to stay. My involvement with the Church has been through the music ministry, first in the early days with the “informal service” choir and now with the chancel choir. It is through music that I find God.

David Drane graduated from Tivy High School in 1991.  He and his wife, Laura, own Scrap Solutions, a Kerrville metal and plastic recycling business.  David and Laura have nine year old twins, Cooper and Brooklyn Drane.  Cooper and Brooklyn attend Tally Elementary School.  Laura is the librarian at St. Peter’s Day School.  David and Laura and their children are active members of First United Methodist Church in Kerrville.

I was confirmed in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Kerrville, Texas April 29, 1954.  Both Jana and I attended reaffirmation classes at St. Peter’s and celebrated reaffirmation with the Rt. Rev. William Frey.  We were presented for reaffirmation by the Rev. Stockton Williams in 2015.

Cristi is currently completing her Master of Divinity degree at the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin, Texas. She was sponsored by her home parish, Church of the Ascension in Magnolia (Seattle).  She will be ordained a priest in June, 2017.  She will serve her curacy-in-training at Saint Mark's Cathedral beginning September 1, 2017.

I spent weekends at the Kerrville Airport working for flying lessons while in high school.  I earned my private pilot’s license in 1956.  My glider rating was added in 1985.  I completed the requirements for Federation Aeronautique   International “Diamond C Glider Award #5505” in September, 1993.  I presently own and fly a 1949 Piper Clipper which I restored over a nine year span and a light sport Vann’s RV12.  I enjoy flying and restoration as well as wood working.

While at Schreiner Bank I was a Registrar for the Selective Service System.  Subsequently, in 1981 I was appointed by Governor William Clements to serve on our area Selective Service Board.  This service was limited by statute to 20 years.  Also through this span of years I was a member of the Kerrville, Kerr County Airport Advisory Board.  While a member we secured Federal and State moneys for several major improvement projects for our airport.

Both our children, David and Cristi Drane, served as acolytes at St. Peter’s.  Because of their early exposure to service to others through the Church each has a strong Christian foundation.  The seeds for Cristi’s call to the ministry began while she served at the Altar of St. Peter’s Church.  I am indebted for that and I would like to contribute during this time of transition for St. Peter’s.
